SHOOT DVD REVIEWS #3: Stories From The Streets: The Jon Moxley Story (2011)

BEFORE he became WWE superstar Dean Ambrose, Jon Moxley was a charismatic indie guy who was doing much of his best work in Combat Zone Wrestling on the US east coast. By the time he did this 160-minute shoot interview with Smart Mark Video he was on the verge of heading to WWE developmental and becoming "Dean Ambrose".
This tape is pretty cool and Moxley comes across as an easygoing (if slightly crazy) fella who's overcome a tough childhood to achieve his dream. There are tons of funny stories, including his time in Puerto Rico where he wrestled as a Brit (!) while fucked up on all kinds of drugs. A damning indictment on the wrestling scene in Carlos Colon Country.
Moxley also talks openly about his early days training and wrestling for Heartland Wrestling, then a bunch of other American promotions, winding up with Combat Zone Wrestling.
His philosophy on wrestling, both straight and hardcore, is very interesting. I really felt like going out with this dude and drinking a shitload of scotch with him!
The DVD also comes with a bunch of Moxley's matches against the likes of Ricochet, Brain Damage, Sami Callihan, Davey Richards and more. Plus some of his most intense interviews - this guy had "IT" from an early stage in his career.
Shame he's not slotted as an upper mid-carder in the WWE.
